Service Exemption for Rare Disease image

ESENZIONE: SCOPRICOME OTTENERLA

Who is entitled to exemption

If you have a rare disease listed in Annex 7 of the DPCM 12/01/2017, you are entitled to exemption from the health ticket.

If your family doctor or a specialist suspects that you may have one of these rare diseases, you can:

  • be referred to a specialized center in the regional network;

  • undergo all necessary tests for free to confirm the diagnosis. In this case, the network center must include the exemption code R99 in the prescription.

If a hereditary rare disease is suspected, your family members are also entitled to free genetic testing.

If your family doctor or a specialist suspects that you may have a rare disease not listed in Annex 7 of the DPCM 12/01/2017, you will be

  • followed in all stages of the process by your family doctor or specialist for
    - diagnostic assessment;
    - definition of the individual care plan;

  • referred to the hospital facility most suitable for your specific case, even if it is not part of the official network.

How do you obtain the exemption?

If you have received confirmation of a rare disease diagnosis, the specialist at the Center will issue you a certificate, valid forever and throughout Italy.

This certification is issued on a specific model A which must include:

  • name;

  • identification code of the disease or the group of diseases it refers to.

With this certificate, you can request an exemption from the ticket at a CUP desk of your local health authority (ASL). You will also need to present:

  • valid identification document;

  • health card / registration with the National Health Service;

The right to exemption from the ticket is valid throughout the national territory.

If you have a residence different from your domicile and have applied for temporary healthcare assistance, you can contact the ASL where you have your domicile. The exemption will have the same duration as the temporary assistance, from a minimum of 3 months to a maximum of 1 year, with the possibility of renewal (according to note R. L. prot. n. 99609/4A/09 of 5.08. 2005).
